Gernhardt Gardening Hacks of Rogers Park Launched!
* Fagus/Moore Political Hack Gets SSA Mural Job
From the mouth of Mo Cahill.....> "I have been putting in more time in my studio, doing more political work... an actual job, tho temporary, may have landed in my lap. There is a local project to do a mural, hopefully the first of many annual projects. actual cash money." BLOGNOTES: So, no wonder Fagus/Moore political helper Mo Cahill was so anxious to push the Special Service Area #24 mural project through without community input. She is actually going to benefit from the project herself, in the form of cash payments. Looks like that old saying is true. You help me get elected, I help you. Screw everyone else. It's becoming clear what the Special Service Area tax is used for in Rogers Park. It's to help out politically connected people. . . . . More

Screamin' Mo Cahill: Working for The Man
She's so cutting edge, so progressive, so Establishment. Contradictions? Not in the mind of Mo Cahill, a local arts-and-crafts lady who has to give away free buttons with a co-opted expression that she did not create to get people to buy her arts-and-crafts. . . . . More

I have to go back to the RPGG issue, the gardeners who had Gordon linked defenders out of control about making a civic cause a political issue because the group was referred to as the Gordon Group. Where are the complainers and the voluminous posts about being so upset that a good project that is so civic minded that making it political was just wrong. Everyone knows that at a minimum the gardeners/gordoners defenders were all from the Gordon campaign and it doesn't take much to know that some of the members were volunteers for Gordon. I wasn't as offended as some were, but this example is about the outrageous lies and misrepresentations that the blogs known as the Rogers Park Bench, the Hell Hole and the Howard Watchers make every day. The mural project is a plus for the neighborhood and like gardens, as long as there is some quality control and oversight by a diverse group it will be successful. Who is watching these gardening rebels anyway?
I have not watched the video of Cahill yelling. It sounds like she was inappropriate, but if that was the standard Mr. Hole is inappropriate at almost every single meeting he attends. Mr. Bench never attends anything. He prefers to make up the facts as he goes along. His opinion is misinformed and unwitnessed opinions that are nothing but a load of crap. For UFO talk that is fine. For important neighborhood events it isn't good enough Bench. Ms. Howard St. goes to meeting and as I have noted in comments here she does sometimes reflect the actual facts. Her spin is sometimes off and her opinions about who is to blame are often way off.
Cahill is an artist of some sort. Maybe not even a good one, but she is an artist. Nobody has ever challenged her being an artist. The worst comments have challenged her quality. By the way, what evaluation are the RPGG members subject to? What kind of skills levels do they have? I'd guess they are hobbyists for the most part if not entirely. Since some have done political work for Gordon might the right name be the Rogers Park Gardening Hacks? In Hell Hole land that would be the nice name for them.
I hope the "Mile of Murals" has space to draw three jack asses with three faces we all know from blog world. They certainly have been earned. I will be making that suggestion. Please join me and send it to kbares@devcorpnorth.org

You make some reasonable points on this blog, but with this post I think your politics is showing.
I will not say anything about Mo Cahill, but what bothered me about this mural project was the short timeframe. How can something of quality be conceived and executed in such a short timeframe? Not possible in my opinion and of someone I know well who is a professional expert on murals. To say the mural project is a "plus" is an oversimplification to me.
Regarding the RPGG, perhaps when the website is up you'll see what this group is about: Gardening. And BTW, the board consists of a Master Gardener and accomplished professionals that are also avid gardeners.
It seems like you are calling for the RPGG to not accept any promotion from bloggers you take issue with. What is that about? You might consider these posts as neutral ground and something positive.
I don't think you should look a gift horse in the nouth. The RPGG is made up of people willing to spend their time and money making Rogers Park more green and attractive. There will be no campaign signs in these flower beds.

well, allow me to comment. it will be nice to get my comment published.
i feel so honored to join howard dean in the taken out of context hall of fame. was i screaming? i don't think so. i was forceful. but i want to remind ALL that the meeting was close to 2 hours. it was edited down to about 20 minutes of the actual meeting. i have bugged mr bench repeatedly to show the entire video.
he did not show the constant comments from mr hole, mr bench, and sir harrington, disparaging the neighborhood, and the mural project. it edited out craig's hissy fit when asked to brainstorm about rogers park as a part of the wider world. he walked out went home and reported on it by repeating the comments, like drug dealers, homeless, public urination. these were the contributions to the discussion that were edited out of the video. my little "tirade" was a response to a meeting full of bs, but specifically by harrington trying to derail the idea of a professional mural. he gave a real stem winder of a speech about "the youth", to which i basically replied- the professionals. does anyone REALLY think that the anchor mural of a decades long project should be a youth outreach exercise? or should it be a professional production?
three people out of about 20, pissing on the parade.
once again, they lost. but they will not stop with the stupid attempts to disrupt the process.
the rush was in hope of getting it done in time for the glenwood festival. if it had just been left to the artists, we would have toasted the completion then. but the whiners continued to derail the process. right now we are waiting for the cta to sign off, then we will go.
i have met with these artists, and i will say that i am sure fair minded people will love it, and others will be themselves. but anyone who thinks that this is some kind of plum should know that i can say for myself that i have already put in the 40 hours i am supposed to be getting paid for, and the wall isn't even power washed. i am not the only one. you all are lucky to get any kind of talent for the money that is on the table. fortunately, you have found a group that loves the hood, and will put everything we have into the project.
if the whiners don't like it, they can go ahead and find their own wall. as harrington so grandiosely pointed out- there are millions of miles of wall in RP.
