* Is Being A Poor Neighborhood "Progressive?"
According to a new report, Rogers Park is "emerging as one of the low-income neighborhoods" of Chicago. This clearly contradicts what DevCorp North and the Joe Moore have been feeding us these past few years. Instead of being on the upswing, this report shows Rogers Park is falling into a deep pit of poorness. Is this what the progressive 49th ward political leadership has in mind for the future of Rogers Park? . . . . More

This was posted today on Hellhole. In a typical fashion the story is sensationalized and neglects to mention that the study is based on data collected in 1999 for the 2000 census. Hello Craig! Its 2007 and if you don't see major change in the population over the last seven years you have a serious vision problem. We all know that there are many new condo owners in the neighborhood who paid big money to buy those converted rental units. It is not even possible for Rogers Park to have fallen into the "emerging low-income neighborhoods" you are trying to paint Rogers Park as.
The comments about progressive are intend as a swipe at all progressive but particularly our elected leaders. Nevertheless, given that the community is improving and housing and as a result income levels are improving. I would answer that question with a proud YES. Things are getting better and with a continued effort by many of the people who enjoy Rogers Park it will continue to get better.
